Well it is and it isn’t. For one, the actual object probably isn’t the size of the fireball, what you’re actually seeing is all the exterior bits being burned off. And second, space is pretty friggin huge. If an object is smaller than Texas, ground-based equipment has practically no chance of seeing it.
