So what is this… commentary on social injustice in Ulster? Or actually about Britain?

  4. kbjhaines Says:

I guess thatthey didn’t want the population in England to think too much about how it might feel to live under army occupation.

If I had the solution to that one, I would’ve been elected President instead of Obama. I think England would simply have to be willing to walk away from it, something they’re not likely to do in our lifetimes without some major prodding.

Any idea how Ireland might be reunified peacefully?

  13. bloor30 Says:

the clips behind it are of the conflicts in northern ireland and it makes numerous references to the conflict in the lyrics and because of the songs subject manner the bbc banned it

I know this song from an Irish TV programme called ‘Reeling in the Years’, which is an awesome trawl through the archives of Ireland’s national TV station. This song feaures for the year 1981. A truly bleak year. The year of the Hunger Strike in Northern Ireland and set amidst savage 1980’s recession and poverty. Very powerful and appropriate.
